Hand Doctors for Carpal Tunnel in Las Vegas, NV

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) has become increasingly prevalent in the modern, digital-driven world, affecting individuals who frequently engage in repetitive hand movements or maintain prolonged awkward hand positions. This condition is characterized by the compression of the median nerve within the narrow carpal tunnel, located at the wrist where it is surrounded by bones and ligaments.

What Are the 4 Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The development of CTS symptoms can vary among individuals but typically includes:

Numbness and Tingling: Often affecting the thumb, index, and middle fingers with a sensation that may spread up the arm.

Pain: Pain can occur in the wrist and forearm, ranging from mild to severe, often worsening during the night or when engaging in activities that involve fine motor skills.

Weakness: There may be a noticeable decline in the ability to grip objects firmly, which can affect the performance of manual tasks.

Mobility Loss: Patients might experience an increased tendency to drop objects due to weakened hand strength or numbness.

While repetitive hand movements are the primary risk factors for CTS, other elements can contribute to its development, including:

Medical Conditions: Issues like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and thyroid disorders can lead to increased inflammation and pressure on the nerve.

Pregnancy: Hormonal changes and fluid retention during pregnancy can exacerbate wrist swelling, heightening CTS risks.

Genetics: A familial predisposition may increase susceptibility to CTS.

Early detection is essential for effective management of CTS. At Anodyne Pain and Health Clinic in Las Vegas, diagnosis starts with a comprehensive evaluation of symptoms and a physical examination of your hand, wrist, and arm. Diagnostic testing may include:

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS): This test measures the speed of electrical impulses through the median nerve.

Electromyography (EMG): Assesses the electrical activity in muscles, identifying potential damage or muscle weakness linked to CTS.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment in Las Vegas, NV

Treatment varies based on the severity of symptoms but generally focuses on relieving discomfort and preventing further damage:

Lifestyle Modifications: Making ergonomic adjustments, changing hand use habits, and maintaining proper wrist alignment.

Wrist Splints: Using splints, especially overnight, to stabilize the wrist and alleviate pressure on the median nerve.

Physical Therapy: Includes exercises to strengthen the muscles of the hand and wrist, improving flexibility and reducing symptoms.

Medications: Non-prescriptive pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce pain and swelling.

Corticosteroid Injections: Administered for acute pain relief and to reduce inflammation.

If non-surgical treatments are ineffective, carpal tunnel release surgery might be recommended. Performed in Las Vegas, this surgery involves severing the transverse carpal ligament to relieve pressure on the median nerve, typically resulting in significant symptom improvement.

Looking forward to my next visit and seeing the sweet Dr Garcia again. I went in originally for pain in my knee, fatigue and some women concerns I had. Walked out feeling incredible, not rushed, understood and ready to go again the next time I’m in town. Highly recommend!
